The Ginseng Market was open at the Ginseng & Herb Street in 1920s. The market became the international hub of ginseng distribution where 80% of the nation's total ginseng production is traded. When walking by the market, many foreign visitors from various countries are often seen on the street.

The nation’s largest ginseng market includes many ginseng-related facilities in a pleasant environment such as the Geumsan International Market, Geumsan Fresh Ginseng Center, and Geumsan Ginseng Shopping Center. In the Geumsan Ginseng Shopping Center, many visitors and travelers use Ginseng hotels and Ginseng Sauna.

2. Geumsan Ginseng Museum
Many kinds of ginseng can be classified depending on the harvest timing, product processing, and its quality. Fresh ginseng is the raw product, freshly picked from the fields. White ginseng is freshly dried ginseng without being heated or going through other processes.

Red ginseng is dried or sun-dried ginseng after being peeled and steamed at high temperatures. The Geumsan Ginseng Museum is the best place for visitors to learn all aboutthe Geumsan ginseng, including its effects, varieties, and superiority.

The center is a four-story building. The first floor is the exhibition center with information on ginseng farming, farming tools, and various types of ginsengs. On the second floor, there you will find the Herb Center and Healthy Life Center where people can learn about the folktale of ginseng, ginseng’s medical benefits, and all kinds of overseas ginsengs at a glance.

The third floor displays records about a wealthy merchant named Sang-ok Lim who had exclusively traded ginseng during the Chosun dynasty.

3. Gaesamteo Park

Gaesamteo (開蔘址) is the most important historic site to learn about the origin of Geumsan ginseng. It is said that, 1500 years ago, a man having the last name of Kang first started Geumsan ginseng farming here. At the entrance of Gaesamteo Park, a sculpture written on “A Gift from Heaven, Ginseng” welcomes visitors.

The road leads up to the display of miniature dioramas which tell the folktale of Kang’s filial piety and Gaesamteo’s history. The picture inside of Gaesamgak describes the moment which the mountain spirit gave a ginseng plant to Kang for his mother’s recovery.

Before starting the Geumsan Ginseng Festival, the Jangsam ritual ceremony for Jinak, the Mountain Spirit is held each year.
