Cyclists’ Paradise

Naepo will be one of the most cyclist-friendly city where you can reach anywhere in the town anytime by bicycle within 30 minutes. Bicycle-only lanes circulating the whole town will be constructed to share up to 30% of the total transportation. Bicycles lanes will be divided into three types by the function -- commute lanes (42.7km), leisure lanes (22.9km) and daily lanes (4.5km). And a central transfer station and transfer stops will also be made to improve convenience and help the bicycle transportation take root.
 

Public Design City

For the first time in Chungnam, Naepo will become a city of public design. Professional agencies commissioned by the Provincial Office have completed and will complete a total of 77 design projects in 27 different areas including 20 public installations (benches, signage), three public spaces (outdoor stages, pocket parks) and four structure displays (tunnel walls, bridge rails).
 

One Stop Service in Community Complex

A one stop community complex (Building Area: 7,600 m², 4 above-ground and 1 underground floors) will be constructed near the apartment complex of the new town and operated as a trial. This complex equipped with administrative, educational, cultural, welfare and sport facilities will provide residents in the village with one stop public services. The building will house various amenities including a township office, health center, post office, police substation, welfare centers for children and the elderly and 119 safety center. Chungnam Province plans to gradually expand such a community complex up to five within the town.
 


Korea’s First Community Energy System Using Wood Pellets

Naepo will adopt the community energy system using wood pellets for the first time in Korea. This new and renewable energy complex to be built in the 834,000m² area in Hongseong and Yesan will be equipped with RDF facilities (a system that produces a fuel in the form of pellets or bricks from domestic waste) and ‘bio gas’ facilities (a system that produces methane gas from food waste and sludge) as well as the co-generation system using wood pellets.
 
Wood pellets are an environmentally-friendly fuel generally made by grinding wood into sawdust and compressing it at a high temperature. The maximum heat generation of this system to be installed in Naepo will be about 395Gcal/hr (1 Gcal = 1 billion cal). This is an enormous amount given that 1Gcal is enough to heat 200 four-member households living in a 105m² apartment for one hour.


Green City Laden with Trees

Naepo will become a green city with green areas taking up over 50% of the town. The plan is to create a green network stretching throughout the whole town from the north-south pillar that connects the Yongbong and Suam mountains. Parks near the rivers and streams passing through the town will also be connected to the green network. In addition, public facilities and apartment complexes will form parks or gardens on the ground to give a touch of greenery. Aside from these, the Province will actively promote the installation of so-called ‘pocket parks’, such as roof gardens and green walls. 


Clean City Free of Five Things

Naepo will be a city free of utility poles, pedestrian overpasses, garbage, walls and disorderly advertising boards. First, utility facilities including power cables will be laid underground not just for the aesthetic purpose but for the efficient management of infrastructure. And to make a not vehicle-oriented but people-oriented city, a ‘horizontal (ground-level) walking network’ will be formed instead of constructing pedestrian overpasses. Wastes will be collected and transportedvia the Clean-Net, an integrated underground waste transport system. Walls will not be installed in principle. Instead, plants and trees will play the role of walls, if necessary, contributing to green images of the city at the same time.
