Linking them to local festivals... annual event-holding after the first public trial performance in history
A venue where one can experience meet Chungcheongnam-do’s 49 intangible cultural properties designated by the country and the province at one time will be established.
The province decided to hold a public trial performance of intangible cultural properties and an exhibition event once a year beginning 2012, linking it to the major city and gun festivals. After selecting 1 city and gun through a contest, a public trial performance of all items of intra-province intangible cultural properties will be held in the major festival of the selected area. For this, the province plans to hold a contest this coming January for the 16 cities and guns; if next year’s budget is secured for public performance and exhibition, the travel and performance cost of the troupe and material cost will be shouldered.
According to a related official of the province, the trial performance and exhibition of intangible cultural properties seek to combine intangible cultural properties with typical local festivals to uphold the rights of local people and tourists to enjoy culture. “Since the participation of all items is planned, it is expected to provide a valuable opportunity to appreciate, see, and experience all items of intangible cultural properties in one place for the first time in Chungcheongnam-do,” he said.
The province has 8 nationally designated intangible cultural properties including Buyeo Eunsan Byeolsinje, Seocheon Weaving Hansan Mosi (ramie), Dangjin-gun Gijisi Tug-of-War, and 41 province-designated intangible cultural properties including Yeonsan Baekjung-nori, Geumsan Nongbau ritual for rain, Taean Whangdo Bungi ritual for a big catch, Dangjin-gun Anseom ritual for a big catch, etc., and 52 artistic talent holders and technical skill holders.
