Although everyone is tired due to the hot and humid weather, which came earlier than usual, everyone is happy with broad smiles despite their clothing being 
stained in mud and soaked with water.
I visited Boryeong Sea Mud Exhibition (Boryeong Mud Festival), which reopened for the first time in three years due to 
COVID-19.

The 25th Boryeong Mud Festival started on July 16 and will be held for 31 days until August 15 under the theme of 
‘Rediscovery of Oceans, Future Value of Muds’ at Daecheon Beach, Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do.

The most popular spot in the festival is Mud Experience Zone, with various amusement facilities.
Seven indoor exhibition halls where the exhibitions are held offer many things to see and 
enjoy ina cool air-conditioned atmosphere.

You can visit these exhibition rooms and then move to the Mud Experience Zone.
I am afraid you may catch a cold if you visit exhibition halls with wet clothes.

The Mud Experience Zone has a General Zone and a Kids Zone.

Visitors take off their shoes andenter the zone with excitement, anticipation, thrill, and wonder.
 
As you enter the experience zone,you will enjoy being covered with mud and water all over your body.

Visitors were plastered from head to toe with mud and were all smiles.

Regardless of nationality, sex or age, domestic and foreign visitors can enjoy the festival together.

The most popular game is ‘Mud Play’.

Two teams search for white and black stones hidden in extra-large mud baths.
 
Local citizens and foreigners who did not know each other a moment ago form a team and enjoyfinding stones with mud 
water over their bodies.

‘Muddy M’ is extremely popular among young visitors as they can dance to the music with cool water pouring over their 
heads. 
The fervent dances of foreigners look like those seen at a dance competition.

The Mud Water Park allows visitors to experience courses made of tube structures and are popular with all visitors.
At mud spray shower sites, colorful mud, as well as common mud, are sprayed.
Private Mud Pools are also popular where four family members or lovers can play.

The exhibition is held in seven thematic halls.

The Sea Mud Hall displays 562 species of organisms from the coast of the West Sea at Chungcheongnam-do, in a cube-shaped biodiversity repository and offers a large aquarium displaying the marine environment whereorganisms in mud flats,
such as sea cucumbers, sea squirts, and small octopi live.

Visitors can experience a large carbon dioxide absorption device to learn that the blue carbon ecosystem can take in and
store carbon dioxide at a pace 50 times faster than a green ecosystem.

The Sea Mud & New Industry Hall offers information on new marine industries.

84 domestic and foreign firms are conducting marine technology promotions and marketing activities.

It also operates an on-tact promotion zone with an online platform.

The Sea Mud Experience Hall allows visitors to experience jobs in the marine industry and take part in 17 programs using
mud, such as underwater diving, underwater drone piloting, mud massage packs, and industrial diving equipment.

These programs are popular as they are rarely experienced in our daily life.

The Sea Mud Experience Hall displays boats, yachts, camping cars, and camping supplies from Chungcheongnam-do and 
15 cities and counties promote tourist attractions.

The Marine Mud Video Hall hosts a light and art festival through the VR version of beach waves using cutting-edge media.

A story of the unlimited values of Boryeong mud and the sea is introduced.

The Regional Product Hall operates 34 booths for agricultural and fishery products produced by the15 cities and counties 
of Chungnam province.

Visitors can try and buy items at lower prices.

Invitational performances about traditions and stories of culture and arts institutions of the 15 cities and counties are held 
at 2 o’clock daily.

The Marine Mud Wellness Hall operates a reservation system that receives a limited number of visitors daily. 

Free healing programs include mud atopy therapy (30 minutes; 200 persons a day), marine yoga using Tibet’s traditional 
singing bowls (1 hour; 40 persons a day), and a mud foot spa (20 minutes; 600 persons a day).

  

The three characters of the Boryeong Mud festival are KUNI, the intelligent leader of the Boryeong expedition, secret agent ZARI, 
and activist TONI are at every corner of the exhibition and festival to greet visitors.

Admission tickets to the Boryeong Mud Festival can be used for discounts at 15 popular tourist attractions within 
the Chungnam province, including Boryeong-si Gaehwa Park, Daecheon Zip Trek, Largo Farm, 
Michin Seogak Village, Solcham Pottery Craft Workroom,Sky Bike, Experience Children, 
National Top Paragliding, Daecheon Paragliding, Asan-si Pinnacle Land, Buyeo-gun City Tour, 
Cheongyang-gun Goun Botanical Garden, Yesan-gun Agro Land, Taean-gun Nature World (light festival), 
Anmyeondo Maze Park, and Farmkamile.

In addition, the Boryeong Base Golf Resort and Fantasy Sea Resort offer discounted accommodations.

Various academic conferences are held during the event to present the bright future for the oceans and mud industry.

The Marine Mud and Wellness Conference is held on July 27 and 28 at the Boryeong Mud Theme Park Conventional Hall 
to present marine industry policies and cases and discuss the present and future of the mud industry and the develop
ment of a sustainable marine wellness industry.
 
The Festival Industrialization International Seminar will be held on July 22 to discuss the long-term economic effects 
and future direction of the mud festival, and the 8
th Pan Yellow Sea Forumwill take place on 
August 4 to seek future directions of the Pan Yellow Sea region.
